Ahmedabad Diocese priests cheer as DA hiked to 10 per cent

Ahmedabad: There will be an immediate 10 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance for priests of the Ahmedabad Diocese from July 2013 onwards.
An unanimous decision to this was taken at the Diocesan Assembly meeting held on July 13 at the Diocese HQ under the presidentship of Metropolitan HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios.
The diocese had already decided on a 3 per cent hike in salary for priests each year. The assembly took into consideration aspects like high cost of living and inadequacy of the salary scale for priests and has therefore recommended the enhancement.
In a Kalpana No 73/13 dated August 10, 2013 Dr Mar Yulios has thanked the Council and Assembly members on addressing this genuine concern which will go a long way towards addressing the basic needs of the priests and their families.
The Metropolitan has further noted that there should be a subsequent increase in salary quota from parishes and sister concerns to finance this increase.  The 10 per cent increase to the existing salary quota from parishes and sister concerns entails strengthening of the parish contribution of the priest salary fund, notes the Kalpana.
The Kalpana further notes that the Vicars and Managing Committee Members should take special care to send the enhanced amount to the Diocesan Office on or before 15th of every month to enable them to disburse the salary of  priests every month on time. Dr Mar Yulios has  high appreciated the Diocese vicars and decision making committees of the Parishes/Congregations and Schools for their support and co-operation.
