Spell ‘O’ Philo III– The Schools Spell Smartly

DSC_0498In order to tackle the trend of using short forms and SMS language and to give impetus to spelling and pronounciation, St. Thomas School, Indirapuram organized Spell ‘O’ Philo – III on 24th November, 2015 with its yet another unique theme ‘Pine for Pacifism’, a fun-filled inter school Spelling Competition in the memory of His Grace Job Mar Philoxenos (Former Metropolitan of Delhi Diocese and Vice President of St. Thomas Schools). The Chief Guest of the day was Dr. Shiv K Gilra, Professor of English and Chief Editor ,  Study Material Division at Mewar Institute , Vasundhara, Ghaziabad. The event was also graced by the Chairman of the School, Rev.Fr. Saji Yohannan, Manager of St Thomas School, Sahibabad, Rev. Fr. Saju Thomas, Principal Mr.V.K.Kuriakose, Vice Principal Mrs. Shali Nair, Head Mistress Mrs Rachel Reji, Vice Principal of St. Thomas School, Sahibabad Mr. Dious Mathai, members of the management and other distinguished guests. Twenty One reputed schools from Delhi and NCR participated in the competition.
The competition was organised to reinstate the indispensability of correct spellings. It kept the participants and the audience on the edge of their seats. The whole event was nerve wrecking including three laps – Prelims (Dictation) named The Genesis, Semifinals (Worksheet) named Armour your Liaison and Finals (Audio/Video) named Fathom your faculties.
Out of the twenty one schools, five could reach the Finals. Cambridge School, Noida came out victorious. They won the Rolling Trophy, Cash prize of Rs.10,000/- and mementos. The First Runner up was Bal Bharati Public School, Brij Vihar who won Cash Prize of Rs. 5000/- and mementos and Second Runner up was St. Francis School, Indirapuram who won Cash Prize of Rs. 3000/- and mementos.
Thrilling, glamorous and nerdy, the competition was linguistic at its best. The spelling extravaganza provides a platform for the best spellers of Delhi and NCR to identify their strengths and achieve recognition for their unique spelling skills.
