The 17th triennial conference and the 80th anniversary of the CHAI- THE CHURCH HISTORY ASSOCIATION OF INDIA


The 17th triennial conference and the 80th anniversary of the CHAI- THE CHURCH HISTORY ASSOCIATION OF INDIA was held at Navajivan Renewal Centre, New Delhi on 16 – 18 October 2017. Around 100 participants of different denominations  from all over India attended the conference.  Its theme was “Indian Christianity: Reform Movements and Emerging Understanding.” Dr. M. Kurian Thomas, faculty of St. Thomas Orthodox Theological Seminary, Nagpur, presented a paper titled “Was the Syrian Christian Reformation Protestant” in the conference. This well discussed presentation discussed the comprehensive influence of the Protestant and West Syriac traditions over the indigenous redefinition process of the Nazranis in the 19th century. Earlier in 2014, Dr. Kurian Thomas presented the paper “the Brahmanic Samskaras in the Nazrani Life Cycle” in the 16th triennial conference held at Ranchi.  It was published in the INDIAN CHURCH HISTORY REVIEW, Vol. 51, No. 2, July 2017. The 18th triennial conference of the CHURCH HISTORY ASSOCIATION OF INDIA will be hosted by the western region of the CHAI, consisting of the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa, in 2020
