The Holy Church observes five feasts every year, starting from Jan 15th. The main feasts in honor of St. Mary are the following:
1) On 15th January – for the sake of seeds, as the first step of sowing
2) On 15th May – for the sake of spikes, as the first step of harvesting
3) On 15th August – in honor of St. Mary’s Assumption to heaven ,
4) On 8th Sept – in honor of the Birthday of St. Mary

Devotional Thoughts for the first Sunday after Denaha – 13th Jan 2013

Today’s reading gives us a brief report of the beginning of the Public Mission of our Lord and Savior. Upon hearing about the imprisonment of St. John the Baptist, our Lord settled in Capernaum, which is upon the Sea coast in the borders of Zebulon and Nephthalim. He started the series of sermons with the exhortation: “Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand”.

The Feast of Baptism of our Lord (Epiphany). It is celebrated on – 6th January. The feast is also called denho, in Syriac means ‘manifestation’ or the Feast of Light. So I think it is appropriate to bring our attention to river Jordan and the event of Baptism of our Lord.
